Newborn photoshoots are my favourite because every new arrival is a miracle. Now is the time to capture these precious moments, as babies grow and change so fast.

The best time to book your newborn photography session is before the baby arrives. Though we can never predict the exact day, it’s recommended to book within 2-3 weeks of your due date. To confirm my availability, it’s best to do this as soon as you can.

What to expect from a newborn photoshoot?

All newborn photography sessions take place at my home studio in Perthshire near Stirling, Scotland. My home studio is a relaxing and safe environment for you and your baby, where I will handle your little one with the greatest care when arranging setups while you sit back and watch me do my magic.

I will provide little outfits, blankets and props, for posed babies and styled basket setups, so all you have to bring is yourself and your bundle of joy. I will focus on wrapping the baby because they love to be snug and warm. There will be a few posed setups as well as basket compositions.

When Its best to book my Newborn Baby Photoshoot?

You can book your newborn baby photography session after your 12 week scan. I would mark down your due date and contact you around a week after to check how you both feeling and confirm exact date and time for the session.

Sometimes parents start to think about a newborn shoot once their baby is born. Its quite common and you’re certainly not alone. Let me know and I can see my calendar if I have any spaces left.

If your baby is already past the 14 days you don’t have to miss out on the newborn session, it just means that we will do things differently. I photograph older newborns up to 8 weeks and we might get some smiles at this point, be prepared for quite a challenge but I have always came up for bets results.

What’s the best age for baby photos?

The first moments of your baby’s life is such a special time and it passes away too quickly. Our babies change and grow very fast, that’s why photographers profession is so important to be able to capture in the best way those little milestones and celebrations.

Generally babies are best being photograph within 1st 14 days of birth, between 5 and 12 days old!

During this time babies are very sleepy and will usually settle easily for the duration of the photo shoot. Its less stressful for them ( and parents) to be posed as they will sleep away. Newborn babies enjoy being curled up in the position similar to when they were in in the womb, by that the images are adorable reflecting their fragile tiny bodies which is kept on a photograph for you to cherish forever. Its normal as a parent to be worried because they are so tiny, that’s why I base my training on newborn safety and I have experience in shooting babies to sleep and work magic. I can assure you your baby is in a safe hands.

After the around 14 days babies usually start to uncurl, stretch out and become more alert. Because of that it will not be possible to capture typical newborn poses and we may not be lucky enough for them to be sleepy for the session.

My baby was born premature, when its best to come for the session?

Some babies are born premature it’s completely understandable that their health is your top priority and its okay to be skeptical about the session. Get in touch and we can talk it through, normally after the baby is discharged from the hospital and settled at home its absolutely okay to book a session. Within first few weeks babies are best photographed whether they are premature or not, after 3 weeks mark typical newborn-like photographs may be challenging (but not impossible).

At 37 weeks, your pregnancy is considered full-term. The average baby weighs around 3-4kg by now. If you have been discharged from the hospital without any health issues, within few weeks its okay to book newborn photoshoot for your babies.
