Alternative Wedding Photography: Capturing Quirky, Non-Traditional, and Creative Documentary Weddings

When it comes to wedding photography, the traditional poses and staged shots may not be everyone's cup of tea. For couples who are looking for something different, alternative wedding photography offers a unique and creative approach to capturing their special day. From quirky weddings to elopements and non-traditional ceremonies, there is a growing demand for photographers who can think outside the box and create stunning, unconventional wedding photos.

I had the pleasure of being chosen to photograph Maura and Simon and I photographed their special day at Dungarthill house, in Dunkeld. We vibed straight away and were a great match. The wedding preparations were relaxed and fun. It was one of the 1st warmer days in Scotland and we spent most of the afternoon outside taking great shots. The Dungarthill house offers beautiful gardens that are perfect for photography, their Victorian interiors add on unique touch. Check out for yourself as I share with you some storytelling photographs.

Quirky Weddings

Quirky weddings are all about embracing individuality and injecting personality into every aspect of the celebration. From unconventional venues to offbeat themes, these weddings are a reflection of the couple's unique style and interests. When it comes to photography, capturing the essence of a quirky wedding requires a photographer who can embrace the unexpected and find beauty in the unconventional. Whether it's a retro-inspired ceremony, a whimsical outdoor celebration, or a themed wedding that breaks the mold, alternative wedding photographers excel at capturing the fun, spontaneity, and originality of quirky weddings.

I would love to give attention to the beauty of Black and white images!

Black and white wedding photography holds a timeless and elegant appeal that captures the beauty of the moment in a unique way. The absence of color allows the focus to shift to the emotions, expressions, and compositions within the image. It can add a sense of sophistication and artistry, evoking a classic and romantic ambiance. Black and white photography can also create a sense of nostalgia, emphasizing the timelessness of the moment being captured. It's a medium that can beautifully highlight intricate details, textures, and contrasts, offering a different perspective and depth to the wedding photos.

Non-Traditional Weddings

Non-Traditional Weddings Non-traditional weddings are breaking away from the conventional norms and embracing new traditions and customs. Whether it's a fusion of different cultural ceremonies, a modern take on classic wedding rituals, or a celebration that defies traditional gender roles, non-traditional weddings celebrate diversity and individuality. For couples who are planning a non-traditional wedding, finding a photographer who understands their vision and can capture the essence of their unique love story is crucial. Alternative wedding photographers excel at documenting the unconventional and creating images that reflect the couple's distinctive journey.

In conclusion, alternative wedding photography offers a refreshing and unconventional approach to capturing the beauty, individuality, and creativity of quirky weddings, non-traditional ceremonies, elopements, and creative documentary weddings. For couples who are looking to break away from tradition and celebrate their love in a unique and authentic way, alternative wedding photographers are the perfect choice to document their special day in a way that truly reflects who they are.

Smoke bombs

Smoke bombs are such a fun and creative addition to wedding photography! They can add a touch of magic and whimsy to your photos, creating a dreamy and surreal atmosphere. When used thoughtfully, they can bring bursts of vibrant color or beautiful clouds of smoke, making your wedding shots truly unique and artistic. Just remember to use them safely and responsibly, making sure they're allowed at your location and taking precautions to prevent any hazards. When used right, smoke bombs can add a whole new level of creativity and enchantment to your wedding photos, making them even more special!
